Environmental Responsibility: Sustainability Durability and Longevity

A look at Environmental Responsibility in the Event industry…

Recently, the Events Industry has had a growing interest in the prevention of Environmental damage. Environmental responsibility is the duty of a business to honour practices that keep the environment safe. The sector is becoming more proactive in the protection of the planet. Many companies are working on strategies for environmental protection and consequently economic growth. As an industry we have to admit our complicity thus far and take action to mend damage done. The aim is a healthy planet for our children and a sustainable way to go forward.

This blog focuses on the practices within the Event Industry and more specifically, what Table Art can do as a business. We take a closer look at our processes and how they can be improved across 2022 and the coming years. Our goal is to be sustainable and carbon neutral. A big ask but big targets is something that every event business needs to set. We all need to get our houses in order so that we can forge forward in the best way possible for our planet.

Environmental Responsibility

“What you take from the earth, you must give back. That’s nature’s way.” ― Chris d’Lacey, The Fire Within

In a similar fashion to the quote, we need to look at ways of giving back to the Environment. We as an industry have a heavy reliance on resources and we need to look at ways of recycling and repurposing. Paper waste is one of the resources we rely on most so here seems like a good place to start. Do away with the single use items. We need to cut down on the table detritus of leaflets, menus and name cards. We have everything at our finger tips for change. The modern world facilitates everything through the phone so why can’t we bring the information needed right into the hands of the guest. Apps are being developed that will direct guests direct to their table. Menus are easily displayed on phones and leafleting belongs in the past.

What We Can Do

“Earth provides enough to satisfy every man’s needs, but not every man’s greed.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

The core of what we do is inherently greener than your standard centrepiece and prop fare. Our objective has always been to provide state of the art centrepieces and props that not only blow guests away, but that work smarter for events. Everything we create packs down into its smallest components. We take great pride in our custom flight cases that house multiple centres and props. In minimising the space our products take up; we are reducing the heavy carbon footprint of production, transport, and storage.

Preserve and Protect

“Those who contemplate the beauty of the earth find reserves of strength that will endure as long as life lasts.” ― Rachel Carson, The Sense of Wonder

Now onto production. Most of our products are made right here in Leamington Spa. Many of our products are made with the help of our CNC Machine. With careful programming and design, everything is cut with minimal waste. We also source our materials locally where we can and do our upmost to carbon offset the elements sourced further afield. Not only that but most of our team are based within just five miles of the warehouse and those living outside of that commonly car share.

We have made the switch to environmentally friendly cleaning products. Cleanliness of our products is of upmost importance to us and so we rely heavily on cleaning materials.  The switch to Eco products has meant that the chemicals used to keep our products looking top class, are also top quality for the planet. Our team also use fabric gloves rather than the rubber gloves of old, and we have done away with plastics generally.

How To Make Better Choices

“Find your place on the planet. Dig in, and take responsibility from there.” ― Gary Snyder

The Health of our Planet is of Worldwide concern. As an industry we need to take responsibility for our practices to ensure a greener future for events. Corporate events generate over a trillion dollars globally, and so we are a significant group in the global market. It is of the upmost importance that we take stock and alter our approach, securing the future.

Sustainability is at the heart of what we do here at Table Art. A guiding principle, we have honed our practices to ensure a greener future for the event industry. Our focus is providing packages that quickly and efficiently transform an event space.

Taking The Lead

“Each moment spent on this bright blue planet is precious so use it carefully.” ― Santosh Kalwar

We are finding that clients are asking more about the Environmental Policies of their suppliers. Rightly so. They are taking responsibility for their event and they want to make the right choices. As an industry, we need to be accomodating and make sure the policies we have in place are effective and smart.

In terms of supply, you have product and transport considerations. As you can see from the discussions thus far, we are looking to address those elements here at Table Art. Other considerations for our customers are their guests. Hundreds, even thousands of attendees all making their way to an event can have an extraordinary implication when it comes to carbon cost. Choosing venues that are close to the businesses in question, that is always a good start. Perhaps now is the time to put focus on shared transport, communicating that through invitations. SImilarly, even offering incentives for those that walk or cycle could be good fun!

Working Together

“The environment is where we all meet; where we all have a mutual interest; it is the one thing all of us share.” -Lady Bird Johnson

2022 will see some big changes here at Table Art. We have a heavy reliance on acrylic and even though we do our best to reduce the waste with cutting patterns, there is still waste. The design studio is currently working on a range of centrepieces that are made entirely from that waste. It will be a vision of abstract shapes that we know will make an impact. For those looking to host an sustainable event then we recommend contacting us. We will do everything we can to make sure we meet your sustainable goals.
